The article linked in abover refers to the results of a survey which quantifies the Cost of Climate change in the first two decades of this century as at least 145 billion Euro. By 2050 these Cost are estimated between 280 and 900 billion Euro, depending on the intensity of climate change. With the lowend amount this means ca. 10 billion Euro per year meaning upwards trend. The most expensive events are floodwaters after heavy rain like the flood in Ahrtal in 2021. "Silent" extreme weather like heat and drought follow. The numbers mentioned apply to Germany only. Economical impacts like for example broken supply chains are not taken into account.
Yesterday I heard in the news that due to the constrained financial situation in Hessen amongst others projects for promotion of Environment will be postponed. In January 2024 according to press information because of budget constraints on Federal level expenditures for the so called natural environment protection planned until 2027 have been cut by 30 percent.
I live in a big living quarter and think of the package deliveries by the divers postmen who whilst distributing leave the engine running. I think of the 200 horse power fast car driver who every morning kicks down first gas and then brake pedal for 200 meters access road. I think of the butcher where half of the lunch portions per request are handed out for take away in polysterene containers for scratch which after half an hour lunch need 50 years until rotted.
And I think that a turned car key, 200 meters below full speed and a brought multiple use container may be wouldn't really hurt but already change something.
